Hi

We are currently living in unprecedented times as such life is very different to anything that any of us ( well perhaps the much older generation excepted) have ever lived through.

I would like to use this Blog to stay in touch with you and give you my take and insights into what’s going on around you and what’s important for you to know.

Today’s concern that I want to address is the article that’s been making the rounds. The article suggest a possible link between Covid19 and Kawasaki’s disease. Furthermore today Matt Hancock suggested that some children may mysteriously died with no obvious underlying conditions.

This has led to considerable anxiety from parents that their children are at risk.

So what do we know ? For now we know that serious outcomes such as death are EXTREMELY rare in children. This has not changed. Is there some super inflammatory condition ( ? new) that has caused children to become extremely ill and possibly succumb to this condition? So far as we know this stage the resounding answer is NO. ( The medical profession will be looking into this with urgency to see if there is any substance to it) Should you be worried about your child who may have abdominal symptoms such as diarrhoea or vomiting? NO ..

What I would say is that if your child has a combination of symptoms such as fever, sore throat or diarrhoea or vomiting, or headaches or loss of taste or an unusual rash then it is perfectly reasonable to get them checked out.

If you child is actually unwell and you are worried about their physical state then you should seek urgent medical help. But do keep in mind that serious illness in relation to Covid19 in children is rare.
